Sufjan Stevens Opens up Fall Tour with Two Night Stint at Johnny Brenda's

Folk statesman and multi-instrumentalist Sufjan Stevens has been a reclusive character as of late. His absurdly ambitious claim to make a full length album for every state in the country seems to have been put on hold for now. In the meantime he is set to release a CD/DVD set entitled "BQE"- a audio visual tribute to the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway which he originally performed in 2007 - complete with a 35 piece orchestra and hula hoop dancing girls. If the cover art and the preview below are any indicator, the whole thing will be ludicrous.

The release also coincides with an east coast tour with label mates Cryptacize beginning with two consecutive nights at Johnny Brenda's in the city's Fishtown section. According to an article on the website for his Asthmatic Kitty record label , Stevens won't actually be playing much of "BQE", instead he will play an intimate set of fan favorites. Tickets for the two shows, slated for September 21 and 22, go on sale this Saturday August 15th at 8 am through the Asthmatic Kitty website. They will be limited so get them quick. And if folk ballads about Illinois and Michigan make you hungry, try JB's pulled pork sandwich...bangin.
